Bolgheri is a medieval town, belonging to the Count of Gherardesca up to the end of the year 1000, with a renowned 17th century castle. In one of the little squares you can find Giosuè Carducci’s house – the famous poet who immortalised the long road flanked by rows of cypress trees that leads up to Bolgheri.
The village is pretty and picturesque, and many of the town’s balconies open onto an impressive view of the surrounding countryside. Today the small streets host numerous shops selling quality local products including wine and olive oil.
Castagneto Carducci is a splendid medieval village built around the Gherardesca Castle, built around the year 1000. The village has cobbled streets, natural viewpoints looking across the countryside and down to the sea, quiet squares, ancient artisan workshops and small characteristic restaurants.
The tour ends with a visit to a “cantina” for wine-tasting and sampling of local olive oil.
